A recent FOX Business article shed light on an emerging real estate trend: co-living. Co-living housing allows a renter to lease a private room and share the rest of the space, including the kitchen, bathroom, and living room, with other renters. Utilities and house cleaning services usually come with the rental cost and the building amenities, such as the pool, rooftop, or gym, are accessible to all tenants. Besides affordability, the sense of community in a co-living house is another reason why the trend is catching up fast among renters. According to an online rental platform, Zumper, the rising rent cost is driving renters either out of the city or to cohabitate with roommates, partners, or parents. With 66 percent of renters now renting in co-living residences, industry trend reports have forecasted the number of available units to increase significantly in the years to come. In the Bay Area, several real estate developers are already working on transforming unused office buildings and hotels into co-living communities.
